Research

In addition to well-equipped research laboratories, the University maintains shared core facilities in DNA sequencing and synthesis, and microscopy and image analysis. University departments also share analytical instrumentation, electron microscopes, a variety of animal facilities for marine and terrestrial organisms, and a central computing center with database packages for molecular modeling and biomolecular sequence analysis.

The Hubbard Center for Genome Studies (HCGS) was established in June 2001 to lead the development of genomics research at UNH. The HCGS established itself as a leader in comparative and environmental genomics, with a special emphasis on novel model species. The HCGS provides technical assistance by constructing BAC and cDNA libraries, providing services in high-throughput DNA sequencing ,fragment analysis and analysis of gene expression. It also maintains expertise in biocomputing and database services to support these activities. The Center plays a leading role in education and training in genomics through a seminar series, short courses, lab rotations for graduate students and the distribution of protocols. As a founding member of the UNH Entrepreueurial Campus, the Center also engages partners outside UNH, to promote the development of the biotechnology industry in the region.
